PERSEUS

This sketch drawing is a straightforward study of the Perseus with the Head of Medusa bronze sculpture by Benvenuto Cellini, in the Loggia dei Lanzi, in Florence. This statue spoke to me not only because of its powerful and graphic content but also because of the sorrow and trauma expressed so passionately in the young Perseus’ face. It also served as an excellent exercise in anatomy and shading techniques.
