These next three works study the architectural language of a personal subject matter and, as an avid fan of videogames, I chose Dark Souls. A distinct overall theme of the Dark Souls experience is the consistent sense of elevation: the players often find themselves ascending through levels in order to reach final bosses or treasures. This experience of ascension is showcased through the game’s clear use of Romanesque and Gothic architecture as well as its medieval town design.
